Activities

In 2011 the CEMS conducted explorations at Chandore and subsequently took up Archaeological Excavations which continued for 4 seasons, students were trained at these excavations in field methods.

In 2012 the CEMS started celebrating an annual event called Archaeology Day to popularise and promote archaeology

From 2012 to 2016 the CEMS has started an annual conference series called the Archaeology of Maharashtra, an annual workshop titled Explorations in Maharashtra and has conducted various workshops in Stone Tool technology, Ceramics, Field Archaeology, and Archaeological Explorations. There have been 6 conferences (3 national and 3 international) and 6 Explorations Workshops.

From 2015-2018 the CEMS under the Centre of Archaeology, created by Dr Welukar in 2014, carried out the Salcette Explorations Project, this project was carried out jointly by the CEMS, INSTUCEN Trust and Sathaye College. Dr Suraj Pandit is the Director and Dr Kurush Dalal (CEMS) is the codirector. It is the largest Urban Archaeological explorations project in India; in 2016-17 we were aided by the MMRC.

The Centre has participated in excavations for training P. G. Students. The students and Faculty participated in Nagardhan Excavation carried out by State Department of Archaeology and Deccan College in 2018 as well as at Koloshi Excavation carried out by State Department of Archaeology in Feb.2020.
